In a recent episode of Today’s Show, Seyfried appeared to promote her upcoming television series, Long Bright River. During their chat, Seyfried and Fallon discussed her musical abilities, which include performances in musical films like Mamma Mia! and Les Misérables.
When asked about her musical skills, Seyfried revealed that she learned to play the dulcimer during the COVID-19 pandemic. When Fallon displayed a dulcimer, Seyfried mentioned her desire to play on an album of Mitchell’s favorite songs from “California”.
“She wrote many songs from the Blue album on the dulcimer, and I learned a great deal from that album while the world was on pause,” Seyfried said before launching into the first verse and chorus of “California”.

Following the broadcast, viewers shared their admiration for her performance on social media, calling for her to portray Mitchell in a potential biopic.
Among her supporters, as seen in the Instagram post below, were Jameela Jamil, Regina Spektor, Gwen Stefani, Maya Hawke, Ryan Tedder, Charlie Puth, Matt Bomer, Sheryl Crow, Aaron Paul, and Kate Hudson. Jamil commented, “Get it. WHAT. Biographical film. GIRL.”
