Background on the Album’s Creation
The album was recorded by founding member and percussionist, whose real name is Shawn Crahan, along with Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, and Jim Root during the production of their 2008 album, All Hope Is Gone.
In recent years, hopes of its release have been dimmed, and to date, only one track from those sessions has been unveiled: the “All Hope Is Gone” bonus track, “Til We Die.”
However, Crahan recently spoke to NME in a new interview, confirming that the release is now fully completed and is on the brink of an official launch.
Reflecting on previous comments he made in another NME interview in 2023, where he assured fans that the release would occur this year, the metal icon stated: “I said it would be in 2024, and I gave it the best fight I could to make it this year.”
Regarding the release, he mentioned: “What I can tell you is that two days ago I showed Corey the final artwork. It’s happening, but unfortunately, due to Christmas and New Year and the way the business operates, I can’t reschedule it for this year.
Final Thoughts and Future Plans
“But I give you my word, it’s out of my hands now. Things are moving forward, money has been spent, and there is a plan. Management has it, and it is coming out.”
Crahan expressed his satisfaction: “I’m very happy about it, and I’m relieved to finally see it go. What’s nice is that it’s not just hype; it’s something we created while making the other Slipknot albums. It was a very genuine effort to make music that wasn’t defined by Slipknot’s usual style, allowing us to utilize our skills without constraints.”
“I don’t know if it’s good, but I know I like it. I make music for myself, and I hope those who have waited find it worth it.”
Despite no official release date being announced at the moment, rumors around the project date back to 2019 when Crahan mentioned that the band was preparing for its release. Corey Taylor later noted he was “trying damn hard to make these worlds come together” to finalize the project.
In 2020, Crahan revealed to NME that the band nearly dropped him in December 2019 but ultimately decided against it to avoid interfering with work on their sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind. He described Look Outside Your Window as a timeless artistic piece in its own right, saying, “I waited so long for it to be perfect, but it never happened. It’s not being confused or watered down for marketing.”
Corey Taylor recently hinted at an August 2023 release again, and Crahan has indicated it would finally be released that year, but that hasn’t happened yet.
The frontman acknowledged that he was partly to blame for the record’s delays, recounting, “I was talking to Clown about this the other day. He said, ‘One of the reasons it didn’t work out is because you keep putting out crap that always conflicts with when I want it out!’ I replied, ‘Damn it, dude, why didn’t you tell me?’ He responded, ‘Fuck, Taylor, you have too much shit!'”
“It seems like he finally has a release date he can commit to, and I promised him that I wouldn’t release anything that would disrupt that date.”
Fans aren’t the only ones excited for the release; just last month, guitarist Jim Root expressed frustration over the delays, threatening to release the album himself.
In another recent NME interview, Clown discussed the band’s ongoing 25th anniversary tour and hinted at plans for new material. He stated, “Eloy (Casagrande, drummer) is in the band, and there’s something very exciting going on between all nine of us right now. There’s a lot happening, and we probably have a few albums ready at this point. Honestly, it feels like a weight has lifted.”
Slipknot will continue their 25th anniversary tour this week, planning live performances across the UK and Europe in 2025. Click here for tickets and further details.
