Sky Ferreira has released a new track, “Leash,” her first new material since 2022’s “Don’t Forget.” The song is featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming A24 film Babygirl, directed by Halina Rein.
Speaking about the track, Ferreira said: “(Nicole Kidman's) character is very self-destructive and ruins other people's lives, but she kind of has to go through all these experiences to grow as a person. I think that's why I connected so strongly with the material, even though my circumstances are so different from the world of the film.”
The release follows Ferreira's departure from Capitol Records, where her second album, Masochism, was never released. In a recent interview with Vogue, she discussed the situation with her former label: “It's just a matter of getting all my stuff back, which is fucking crazy. I don't even know who to talk to at the label. As far as I know, the people at Capital can be very good now. I feel like they don't even understand what's going on because I think most of the people in the Capitol who threw me under the bus are long gone. They got dropped too, which is honestly kind of funny.”
Reflecting on leaving the label, she added: “It's liberating, but to be honest, I'm still angry about the situation.”
