Sebastian Schub shared his new single “I can't believe we never went dancing” via Island EMI Label Group/Capitol Records.
The London-based German artist's latest track follows his debut single “Sing Like Madonna”. Produced in collaboration with Steve FitzmauriceThe new release was recorded live at Dean Street Studios in Soho.
“I Can't Believe We Never Went to a Dance” is a wistful look at a past relationship. The song is about regret and not making the most of things that deserve more,” Shub explains. “The song originally came from a small poem I wrote in the middle of the night, unable to sleep. This is a rare example of how I wrote all the lyrics almost before I had the music.”
“For a long time it was nothing more than an elegiac piano crash – something I kept coming back to but couldn’t finish the song. Last spring, the idea of a trip to Berlin finally came up. And the rumble turned into a real ballad,” he continues. “There were a few different approaches to producing songs like Harry Nilsson's 'Without You', but in the end I settled on just sitting down at the piano in Soho at Dean Street Studios and playing the song live backwards. Nothing more. Just like any show.”
