The “Get Busy” singer’s most recent studio album, Scorcha, was released in 2022. In a four-star review, NME stated, “If Beenie Man is regarded as the king of dancehall, then Sean Paul merits respect as the godfather. Since 2000, he has democratized dancehall music, dominating international charts with original hits like ‘Gimme The Light’ and ‘Get Busy.’ With Scorcha, he reaffirms his hit-making prowess and his status as a pioneer of island pop.”

In a conversation with NME Backstage earlier this summer, Paul noted that he has no intention of retiring soon. “No man, I’m not retiring until I’m dead as a tire, trust me man.”

However, he acknowledged that being an “elder statesman” complicates his ability to jump around on stage, though he believes it keeps him “young.” “I read that if you attend two concerts or festivals every month, it could extend your life by nine years – so I will live forever!” he remarked.

In other news, Ashanti recently welcomed her first child with rapper Nelly. A representative confirmed the birth of their son, Kareem Kenkaid Haynes, on July 18, stating that the couple are “proud and happy parents” and “so in love with KK!”
