Weezer Bassist Responds to Recent Incident
Weezer bassist Scott Schrainer issued a statement following the shocking event involving his wife, who was shot by police and arrested for attempted murder earlier this week.
Details of the Incident
Gillian Schrainer, an author known by her pseudonym Gillian Lauren, was detained in Los Angeles on Tuesday (April 8) after sustaining a gunshot wound that fortunately does not endanger the life of a police officer.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles police, officers were engaged in a car chase unrelated to the incident when one of the suspects attempted to enter the Schrainer property. It was reported that the suspect was shot at by Schrainer, who subsequently pointed a firearm at the officers and refused to comply with commands to lower it. This led to a confrontation, which resulted in an officer being shot in the shoulder.
Schrainer managed to escape to her residence but was later hospitalized for her injuries and subsequently taken into custody. The LAPD confirmed that she was “booked for attempted murder,” and a 9mm pistol was recovered from her home.
Scott Schrainer’s Comments
Scott Schrainer addressed the incident in an unusual manner, speaking to a New York Post reporter outside his home in Los Angeles on Thursday (April 10).
“She’s okay, thank you for asking,” said the bassist while declining to disclose further information regarding his wife’s situation. He added, “See you in Coachella.”
Like her husband, Gillian wrote the book Here, Monster: A Face-to-Face with America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer, which examines the murders committed by Samuel Little, who passed away in prison in 2020. The book was released the following year.
Earlier in March (March 23), Schrainer posted on Instagram that she had recovered from “two major surgeries,” which included a hysterectomy. The couple has two adopted sons.
As for professional news, earlier this week (April 6), Weezer and Ed Sheeran were announced to be featured at Coachella 2025, scheduled for the next two weekends.
The band is also set to embark on a UK and European tour later this year, with tickets available here (UK/Ireland) and here (Europe).
In 2024, they will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, the Blue Album, with several special shows, a new concert film, and a comprehensive, expanded re-release of the LP.
