Celebrating A Historic Victory
Sam Fender celebrated the triumph of Newcastle United in the Karabao Cup during his live show in Berlin, incorporating several tributes to the club throughout his speech.
The singer took the stage shortly after Newcastle clinched their first home trophy in 70 years, defeating Liverpool with a score of 2:1. During the performance, which followed the release of his album “PEOPLE SMOVE,” Fender made several alterations to his usual setlist to commemorate this momentous occasion.
A Personal Touch in the Performance
Fender opened the show with the NUFC anthem – “Going Home Home Home: The Local Hero theme” by Mark Knopfler. Later in the set, he modified the lyrics in his song “A Little Closer,” changing “I never found him” to “his name is Dan Burn,” in honor of the Newcastle player who scored in the 45th minute of the final.
“I’m already emotional today, shedding a few tears. HWTL,” Fender shared before the match, later adding, “The best day. We deserve this. 70 years. The clock has stopped. Like, guys.”
