Robbie Williams on Past Accusations
Robbie Williams expressed that he is not concerned about previous allegations regarding his sexuality, insisting that “you’ve never met a person who wanted to be gay as much as I do.”
Interview Insights
This topic emerged in an interview with the magazine Guardian when the former Take That star was questioned about his 2004 libel lawsuit against a newspaper that published an interview with his alleged “secret gay lover,” implying he was misleading the public by asserting his relationships with women to hide his “disgusting homosexual encounters with strangers.” Williams won significant damages and received an apology.
Williams inquired of interviewer Michael Cragg regarding his sexual orientation. When Cragg revealed he was gay, Williams retorted: “Okay, I’ll ask you this: on the cover of a newspaper read by millions, a woman claimed you performed cunnilingus on her by a canal. As a gay man, are you suing this newspaper?”
Cragg mentioned that he would not pursue legal action but would still be upset about the misrepresentation.
“I was annoyed. I was even sadder,” Williams continued. “Not about allegations of homosexuality, because, look, I did everything except suck dick. Honestly, you’ve never met anyone who wants to be gay as much as I do.”
“I’m a Port Vale fan and it’s like someone saying, ‘Well, you’re a Liverpool fan.’ And I say: ‘No, I’m a Port Vale fan.’ When someone keeps saying you’re a Liverpool fan, it’s like, ‘I’m not a bloody Liverpool fan, why do people think I’m a Liverpool fan?!’
He later remarked: “You want to be an ally while also safeguarding your authenticity and your life. Besides, if I want to suck, I’ll suck. Who the hell is going to stop me? My wife? Beard!”
Upcoming Biopic and Other News
Williams is set to release his new biopic, The Best Man, which is scheduled for Boxing Day. Featuring the singer as a computer-generated monkey, the film chronicles his life and career, from childhood to his early success with Take That.
He recently shared that former bandmate Gary Barlow was given a preview of the biopic, and his feedback led Williams to soften Barlow’s portrayal in the final version, given their tumultuous relationship.
“We had a difficult relationship. In the script, I expressed what I felt at the time, which wasn’t flattering to Gaz, and we sent him the script,” Williams said (via Daily Mail). “He called me, and he’s an adult; there was no cursing or finger-pointing, and he said, ‘Rob, I did worse than Darth Vader in the first half.’
In other developments, Williams recently defended Oasis in light of the controversy surrounding dynamic ticket pricing for their 2025 reunion tour.
“I don’t believe Oasis knew. Liam definitely didn’t know: ‘That’s how much the tickets will cost. We’re going to do what’s called dynamic pricing.’ I only know about dynamic pricing because of Oasis.”
Williams feels that the backlash has shown the music industry what they “cannot tolerate.” He added: “This whole dynamic pricing issue even made me think, ‘Man, I need to be at some meeting.’ Or just say, ‘Let’s not let this happen!’
