Robbie Williams Claims Parklife Cover with Danny Dyer “Didn’t Make Sense on Paper”

A Memorable Performance

Robbie Williams claims his performance of “Parklife” alongside Danny Dyer at BST Hyde Park “did not make sense on paper last year,” but “all the meaning in the world on the stage.”

Unexpected Chemistry

As he took the stage, the actor channeled the original black words performed by Quadrophenia actor Phil Daniels. “This is a double act that you did not know you needed in your life!” Williams exclaimed at the beginning of the song.

In a conversation with JK and Kelly Brook on a heart drive yesterday (March 25), Williams reflected on the unexpected collaboration.

“I mean that Danny Dyer and I have no sense on paper,” the singer remarked. “But we make sense in the world when we are on stage together. It was absolutely awe-inspiring for me, working with Danny, you know?”

“I think Danny is one of those individuals who, like me, has been misunderstood for 20 years due to being eccentric, with no one really resembling us,” he continued. “I believe there have been many judgments about Danny, and similarly for me. I hope that as we age, we embrace our idiosyncrasies. We were like small dogs with big paws.”

“I think we’ve both grown into our bodies, and there is now more acceptance of our eccentricities. That’s why it makes sense.”

Earlier, Dyer mentioned to Radio X that Williams approached him during a recent football event.

“I was like, what? Are you sure about that?” he recalled. “And he said: ‘I have never been more sure,’ so I said ‘yes,’ and then thought: ‘Oh, now I have to do it.’ I love the melody. I love Robbie, and we did it. It was great. It was a present moment. Everything went very well, you know.”

He added: “As soon as I started, I got into the zone. I listened to the song a lot. You have to prepare, you know, and I just tapped into my inner Phil Daniels.”

Graham Coxon from Blur recently expressed his thoughts on their collaboration, calling it “inverted strange,” although he has a fondness for Dyer.

Damon Albarn also commented on this in an interview with BBC Breakfast, admitting he “fell in love with Danny” after watching him on Who Do You Think You Are?, where Dyer discovered his connection to King Edward III. Albarn praised the episode as “the best of all.”

“It was a real revelation that he was a member of the royal family – for him and for everyone,” he noted, adding: “He is definitely from the East; he’s Cockney, and we’re all Cockney.”

Albarn spoke about the cover of “Parklife,” saying: “This is a song for us; it’s good. I hope that everyone finds their own version.”
