Jack Black Joins the Weezer Film
Jack Black has been confirmed as the final cast member of the upcoming Weezer film, as announced by frontman Rivers Cuomo.
Film Announcement at Coachella
The film was revealed during their performance at Coachella this month when Cuomo told the crowd: “We’ve been busy making the film ‘Weezer’ in Los Angeles for the past couple of weeks.”
Journalist Jeff Snyder indicated that the film will be a documentary with Keanu Reeves playing a villain, blending elements of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Black’s involvement was revealed by Cuomo on the Discord server, where he shared a generated image of the film’s poster featuring the tagline: “Weezer-s with the main genus Jack Black.” Expressing disbelief from fans, the singer commented on the image with, “No, this is real.”
This isn’t the first collaboration between the actor and the band. Black toured with Weezer as part of Tustraby D in 2001, while his wife, Tanya Heden, played cello on the cover of Weezer’s “Rocking the Rock” for Green Day in 2003.
Currently riding high at the box office with the Minecraft Film, Black has enjoyed some musical success as well, with the track Steve Chicken achieving the record for the shortest entry into the UK top 40, landing at number 21 this month.
This marks Black’s highest single debut in the UK history, surpassing the song “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, which reached number 27. Notable past chart successes include “POD” (24) and “Tribute” (84).
Meanwhile, Weezer has been announced as headliners for Riot Fest 2025, alongside Green Day and Blink-182. The 20th anniversary of this three-day punk rock festival will take place in Douglas Park, Chicago, Illinois, from September 19 to 21.
