About Saveiam’s Role

The singer made her feature film debut in 2023’s John Vic: Chapter 4 as Akira, the concierge at the Osaka Continental Hotel, daughter of Schimaz Kodzhi Khiroyuki Sanada, the hotel manager and friend of protagonist Keanu Reeves.

According to Diversity, Sawayama will again portray Akira in the upcoming film, which will revolve around Kane Donny Jen, the blind killer and his former friend Vic, who must return to action in order to save his daughter.

A new film will also be directly produced by John Vic director Chad Stahelski and is slated to begin production at the end of this year.

In 2023, Stahelski mentioned to NME that he reached out to Saveiam for her role in Chapter 4 after watching her music videos. “I didn’t know much about her beforehand,” the director stated. “I was introduced to her when we decided to cast Akira.”

“After seeing her music clips, something about her persona and performances struck me … She seemed to be directly out of an anime, reflecting the great influence of Japanese anime on her.”

He explained that within 24 hours of watching her video, he set up a Zoom call with the singer and invited her to Berlin.

Along with her title role in the film, Sawayama contributed a song to the soundtrack called “Eye For Eye.”

Speaking with NME in September about her role, Saveiam remarked: “My team is just so astonished that we were even offered John Vic. We’re all unsure of what will happen next. We just think: ‘What happens to people in films?’”

In a four-star review, NME stated: “Chapter 4 radiates a sense of vitality that elevates the franchise. Stahelski excels in balancing choreography, performance, and style to elevate the spectacle to an enjoyable overload, rather than mere excess, and after 169 minutes, a satisfying sense of closure is appreciated.”
