Red Hot Chili Peppers Reportedly Seeking $350 Million for Music Catalog

Red Hot Chili Peppers Selling Their Catalog

According to reports, Red Hot Chili Peppers is looking to sell its recorded musical catalog for 350 million US dollars – find out more below.

Current Catalog Insights

According to Billboard, the California band’s catalog of Masters is currently available for sale, with the group seeking a minimum of $350 million. Billboard also estimates that this catalog generates approximately $26 million annually for the band.

Presently, Red Hot Chili Peppers owns the masters and rights to all 13 studio albums, along with other releases through Warner Music. However, it remains unclear whether they possess the masters for the initial four albums released via EMI.

Billboard further reports that Red Hot Chili Peppers has reportedly blocked the Warner transaction for the Masters catalog. However, this information has yet to be confirmed.

If the transaction for $350 million goes through, it would be in addition to the $140 million that HipGnosis paid the group in 2021 for their publishing and songwriting rights. This would bring the California rockers’ total to nearly $500 million.

Red Hot Chili Peppers is set to join the ranks of other acts like Pink Floyd, Queen, Kiss, and Tame Impala, who have sold their catalogs. Pink Floyd sold their Sony catalog in October for $400 million, while Kevin Parker from Tame Impala sold both past and future rights to Sony for an undisclosed amount.

Similarly, KISS sold their entire catalog, brand, likeness, and IP to the Swedish investment firm PopHouse for an undisclosed sum. Currently, the record for the most expensive catalog sale belongs to Queen, who sold their catalog to Sony last June for an astounding $1.27 billion, marking the largest acquisition of its kind.

While Red Hot Chili Peppers has not yet revealed its plans for 2025, they recently performed at the Fireaid Beneess concert in Los Angeles to raise funds for areas affected by destructive fires earlier this year.
