The annual event will make its return for the 18th edition later this year, with the 2025 celebration set for April 12th.
Exciting Partnerships and Events
With the approaching event, more than 270 independent record stores across the UK, along with countless others globally, are gearing up to welcome a fresh wave of vinyl releases. As is customary, the stores will host various parties and celebrate the culture of independent record stores.
In honor of the upcoming 18th edition, Record Store Day organizers have introduced a new partner for the 2025 event. This year is significant as it marks the debut collaboration with Cheltenham-based DEYA Brewing Company.
The partnership reflects a mutual commitment to community and creativity, which RSD identifies as “the perfect partner to celebrate all things indie.” To commemorate this collaboration, a special RSD beer will be available in April at participating record stores, bottle shops, and pubs.
Returning brands working alongside RSD include Studio by Miraval and British audio company Bowers & Wilkins. The former, a rosé wine producer, is returning for its second year of collaboration and is known for its unique link to the music industry; the renowned French wine estate Chateau Miraval houses one of the most legendary recording studios, where albums by Pink Floyd and The Cranberries were recorded.
Bowers & Wilkins continues its partnership with RSD due to a “deep-rooted passion for vinyl and record stores” and will provide audio equipment to enhance the vinyl listening experience for the 2025 edition.
More details regarding the events and activities planned for Record Store Day 2025 will be revealed at a later date.
Looking Back at Previous Years
Last year, Record Store Day was celebrated on April 20th, marked by numerous exclusive announcements. True to tradition, the event allowed fans to purchase special, one-off collectible releases on vinyl, cassette, and more from a variety of artists. Highlights from the 2024 announcements include releases from The 1975, David Bowie, Daft Punk, Talking Heads, Paramore, Blur, Lily Allen, Gorillaz, Elton John, Paramore, and Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds.
Following in the footsteps of previous ambassadors like St. Vincent and Dave Grohl, last year’s Record Store Day ambassadors were Paramore and Kate Bush. The event took place amid reports of a nearly 15 percent increase in vinyl sales during the first nine months of 2023, despite the ongoing popularity of streaming services.
Last year’s releases featured notable titles such as “The 1975 Live At Gorilla,” “Parklife (Zoetrope LP)” by Blur, “The Top – 40th Anniversary Picture Disc” by The Cure, “Waiting in the Sky (Before the Starman Came to Earth)” by David Bowie, and “English Teacher’s Live at the Brudenell Social Club.” Visit here for the complete list of releases.
Later that year, Record Store Day unveiled an extensive list of Black Friday vinyl offerings, and you can find the full list of those releases here.
