Ray Admits to Nerves Covering SkyFall at Oscar 2025: “Nobody Can Sing Adele Like Adele”

Ray’s Performance at the Oscars

Ray expressed that she was “so nervous” to perform “Skyfall” at the Oscars this weekend, stating that “no one can sing Adele like Adele.”

During the 97th Oscars held in Los Angeles on Sunday evening (March 2), she joined Doja Cat and Blackpink’s Lisa for a medley of classic James Bond songs, honoring the iconic film franchise.

While Doja tackled “Diamonds Are Forever” and Lisa performed Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die,” Ray had the challenging task of covering Adele’s 2012 theme.

Shortly after her performance, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Ray to discuss the thrill of decorating one of the biggest stages in the entertainment industry. “It was such an exciting performance, but no one can sing Adele like Adele, and it’s scary,” she remarked. “It was terrifying, yet so incredible at the same time.”

Collaboration and Chemistry

Last month, Ray, Doja, and Lisa released their collaborative single “Born Alight,” which was later featured on Lisa’s debut album “Alter Ego.” Ray shared that they have “such electric chemistry,” adding, “I just love these girls. They are so kind, hardworking, and inspiring.”

She also mentioned that when she performed with her eyes closed, she opened them at the end to find Ariana Grande clapping for her. “It doesn’t matter that it wasn’t my own song; knowing Ariana loved it made me so happy,” she added.

On Monday (March 3), Ray took to Instagram to share a clip of her performance. “I was sooo nervous to sing this song, because no one could sing Adele like Adele, but I tried my best,” she wrote. “I’m incredibly grateful to the Academy for this invitation to perform on this stage.”
