Radiohead Celebrates 30th Anniversary of ‘The Bends’ with 1995 Invisible Video Show

Radiohead Celebrates 30 Years of “The Bends”

Radiohead marked the 30th anniversary of their album “The Bends” by releasing an elusive live video from one of Tom York’s solo performances from that era.

Exclusive Live Performance Footage

The VHS recording showcases York during an acoustic solo concert at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Canada, on March 28, 1995.

“Here are a few songs that will help your beer go down,” York modestly remarks as he begins his set.

The 25-minute video features his performances of “(good dream)”, “tall and dry”, “street spirit (disappearing)”, “fake plastic trees”, and “think about you”.

“The Bends” was Radiohead’s second album, propelling them to new heights. This was also their first collaboration with producer Nigel Godrich, who has since worked with the band on every subsequent album.

In addition to the aforementioned tracks, the album produced singles like “Just”, “My Iron Lung”, and “Planet Telex”.

Earlier this week, the band established a new legal entity, suggesting plans for significant activities in 2025.

On March 10, the group formed a limited liability partnership (LLP) named Rheuk25, a move they often make when preparing to announce a new album, tour, or reissues.

This LLP structure allows Radiohead to independently manage their business affairs without relying on major record labels or outside companies. The band has not disclosed further details about the implications of this legal formation.

The group’s last album, “A Moon Shaped Pool,” was released in May 2016, shortly after they registered Dawn Chorus LLP. More recently, they also set up SPIN with Grin LLP, six months before the reissue of “KID A MNESIA” in 2021, followed by Self Help Tapes LLP in 2022 before the announcement of The Smile’s debut album.

All five members of Radiohead – Tom York, Johnny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, and Philip Selway – are registered as officers in Rheuk25 LLP.

Radiohead has operated independently since parting ways with EMI/Parlophone after releasing “Hail to the Thief” in 2003. They established Xurbia Xendless in 2007, releasing “In Rainbows” in the groundbreaking “pay what you want” format through their website. This album and future releases have been made available in physical formats through a partnership with XL Recordings.

The band has recently discussed their future plans. Last year, York made headlines by stating he was “really not concerned” about fans wanting a Radiohead reunion. When he was asked during an interview with Australian outlet Double J about future assumptions regarding the band, he replied, “I really don’t know about that and I actively avoid thinking about it.”

“No one is upset with anyone, and there’s no mistake here, thanks for your concern,” he continued. “But I believe we’ve earned the right to make decisions that make sense for us without needing to conform to anyone’s historical expectations of what we should do.”

This comment followed bassist Colin Greenwood’s recent conversation with NME, where he discussed the band’s brief rehearsal for a potential reunion over the summer.

Colin mentioned: “We got together for just a couple of days in the summer, running through all the songs and picking up where we left off in 2018. It felt really fun and nice to see everyone. We originally planned for three or four days, but after two, we decided to wrap it up because it was so enjoyable. My brother said if we had a couple of weeks of rehearsal, we could easily hit the road.”

“Everyone’s focused on wrapping up their current projects. My brother was unwell and is still recovering, but the rehearsals were incredibly fun and friendly. We practiced in this studio called ‘Church’, where we finished recording ‘OK Computer’. The last time I was there was in 1996 when I recorded bass for ‘Airbag.’ It was amazing to be back there, but beyond this gathering, I’m unsure about our collective plans – whatever they may be, I don’t know yet.”

Before that, Johnny shared with NME that he found the rehearsals “fun and natural,” but he added that there are currently “no plans” for anything Radiohead-related since the members are focused on their “individual projects”.
