Rachel Chinuriri’s BRIT Awards Nomination
Rachel Chinuriri has shared her reaction to Adele sending her flowers to celebrate her BRIT Awards nomination.
Nominees for the 2025 ceremony were announced on Thursday (January 23), with Chinuriri receiving nominations for Entertainer of the Year and Best New Artist. This followed the release of her debut album What A Devastating Turn Of Events in 2024.
Among those who congratulated her was BRIT School graduate Adele, who sent her former NME cover star a bouquet of pink roses alongside a note that read: “Congratulations on your Brit Award nomination, Rachel. I'm so happy for you and can’t wait to come to the show! With love, Adele.”
Chinuriri’s Emotional Response
Reacting to the report, Chinuriri wrote on Twitter/X: “Help how I recover from this,” adding: “I'm shaking… a lot.”
She continued on Instagram, saying: “I know sometimes it's not a big deal to some other artists, but I think because I went to BRIT school, I remember seeing Adele standing on stage and she was like: ‘I used to be like you’ when she performed.
“And she pointed to the drill, and I was in the hole,” she said. “I remember thinking, wow, this is so cool, even though I could never do it.”

This isn't the first time Adele has expressed her admiration for Chinuriri. While performing at her Weekends With Adele residency in Las Vegas last year, she told the crowd: “There's a new artist coming up, she's British, her name is Rachel, and she likes indie music.” She then added: “She's absolutely amazing, she has a concert in Los Angeles in March and I'm going to go alone. That's what I'm going to do.”
Chinuriri’s Rising Star
Chinuriri released her debut album, What A Devastating Turn Of Events, earlier this year. In a four-star review, NME said: “What A Devastating Turn Of Events” – despite its somewhat bleak title – is consistently charming, while offering enough range of sound and scale to hint at Chinuriri's future ambitions. She worked hard to make it sound so simple.
The record was named one of NME“The 20 Best Debut Albums of 2024” and ranked 10th on our overall list of the 50 Best Albums of 2024.
Later this year, Chinuriri will open for Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet UK and European tour. Check out the full dates below and come here to purchase tickets.
Back in August, the “Never Need Me” singer announced that she had pulled out of Remi Wolf's tour and several festival appearances due to the financial strain becoming “too much.”
In other news, the BRIT Awards will take place at The O2 in London on Saturday 1 March and will be broadcast exclusively on ITV1 and ITVX. Comedian and actor Jack Whitehall has been announced as the returning host, making it the ceremony's fifth performance after 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Charli XCX leads the nominations this year, winning in five categories including Entertainer of the Year, Pop Act, and Dance. Her collaboration with Billie Eilish, “Guess,” is also included in the Song of the Year category, and her record “BRAT,” which inspired BRAT Summer, was shortlisted for Mastercard Album of the Year.
