Queens of the Stone Age: “Alive in the Catacombs” Live Release from Paris

Queens of the Stone Age Tease New Live Release

The Queens of the Stone Age are teasing a new live release titled “Living in Catacombs”. Check out the preliminary viewing below.

Documenting the Catacombs of Paris

It is believed that this upcoming project is documented by Josh Homme and Co. on the historic catacombs of Paris from last year. Reports indicate that the set was a “disconnected session” that took place without an audience and was recorded for future broadcast.

Earlier this week, QOTSA shared a brief atmospheric video filmed in the underground Oserias of the French capital, where the remains of over six million people rest.

The video shows water dripping in fog-lit tunnels, followed by a close-up of a human skull. Later, the silhouette of Homme emerges from the darkness as he walks through the corridor.

The title “Queen of the Stone Age – Living in the Catacombs” appears at the end of the teaser, with fans eagerly anticipating its release “soon.” According to the caption, the show was filmed by the Paris production company La Blogotheque. QOTSA encouraged fans to register for further updates.

In a similar, but slightly longer video, viewers can see Homme singing into a vintage microphone with the caption “He arrives earlier.” Check out both preliminary viewings below.

The catacombs have been open for public visits since the 19th century and remain a popular tourist attraction in Paris. The Queens of the Stone Age were the first band to perform there.

Announcing a special performance in 2024, Homme stated, “I’ve worked for 18 years to reach this elevated place in Paris. And it feels entirely alive.”

“I would like to embrace some of these ubiquitous ideas—like being an entry point to something alive—and craft something different out of them. People can witness how we play live in various simple ways on the Internet, but I want to create something alive that isn’t often done,” he continued.

He added, “We’ll put out these versions and let fans dictate the rest. They can control how they experience our music—whether it’s live or online. It doesn’t matter how you ingest our music, what matters is that you find it and enjoy it. I want to create various ways to approach these ideas.”

Meanwhile, the “Queens of the Stone Age” are set to perform at two major outdoor concerts at the Circus of Sheffield for Rock-N-Roll this summer, shortly after headlining a victorious show at the Portsmouth festival.

The band will embark on a European tour later this year, appearing at numerous festivals including Aya, Electric Castle, Explosed, Pukkelpop, and Rock-en-Seine.

QOTSA had to cancel some European tour dates in 2024 due to an “emergency operation” that frontman Homme needed. He returned to the stage last December for the tribute concert honoring Mark Lanegan in London.

The first show for Queens is currently scheduled for June 10 in Boston, Massachusetts. They will also perform at Bonnaroo 2025 in Manchester, Tennessee, among other U.S. dates.

The band released their eighth and latest album “In Times New Roman” in 2023. In a four-star review, NME wrote: “They captured their return as an emotional exorcism for Homme while still appealing to non-Agear fans as well.”

Last summer, Homme promised to “roll up his sleeves,” ensuring fans wouldn’t have to wait long for the next album after a six-year gap between “Villains” and “In Times New Roman.”

At the end of 2023, Homme and guitarist Dean Fertita discussed their journey and personal battles with NME, contemplating what lies ahead for the band.

“I think we have to do something,” Homme explained about six months after the last LP released. “The mantra of the past five years has been, ‘It won’t be long!’ That should apply to our actions as well.”
