The Collection of Figures and Ships
The actress, married to the guitarist for over 24 years, revealed in a recent interview that May has a collection of figures and ships inspired by George Lucas’s iconic franchise.
Dobson, known for her role as Angie Watts in Eastenders, noted that her partner often purchases two of the same items related to the science fiction series—one for himself and one for their grandchildren.
“Brian is a collector of Star Wars toys and astronomical things. He is a significant collector,” she stated at the launch of Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo show at the Royal Albert Hall Musical News) “He buys a packaged one and one that he can keep for his grandchildren.”
“He has bought quite a lot, as he has lived his life. His favorite is a little green character; he loves Yoda,” she continued, adding that he also enjoys collecting items related to “prehistoric creatures.”
“I always think I need to declutter, and most of my clothes go to the local hospice. But there are so many things. The way I see it, my husband leads the charge, and I’m just along for the ride,” she explained.
“I try to reduce the accumulation of items that come in. My husband is really smart; for things that seem useless, he’ll say, ‘No, no, don’t get rid of this, because it might come in handy.’ And he’s right,” she added. “If he sees something, he decides to keep, it ends up in his collection.”
Dobson mentioned that he also has a vast collection of Queen memorabilia, including past costumes from performances, photo shoots, records, and more.
Brian May’s Diverse Interests
Brian May’s passions extend beyond collecting; he has been actively raising awareness about badgers in the UK and challenging misconceptions regarding the spread of bovine tuberculosis.
Last year, he collaborated with the BBC to create a documentary titled Brian May: Badgers, Farmers, and Me, which follows his four-year effort to eradicate the disease that affects cattle without harming badgers.
Additionally, he has a keen interest in astrophysics, having studied it at Imperial College London, where he earned a PhD in 2007.
May has successfully merged the worlds of music and science by founding a festival called Starmus, which celebrates both disciplines.
