New Album Announcement
Purcupations has announced their fifth studio album, “Ill At Usecy,” set for release via Bornings Records. The Canadian quartet has also shared their new single, “Focus.”
Exploring Modern Pressure
The new track delves into the pressures of modern society through a dark wave sound, featuring guitar work inspired by InXS and the vocals of frontman Matt Flel. The single is accompanied by a music video that includes personnel from various cults and their leaders.
“Focus … or its absence. Shame and regret: awakening with this, is not able to sleep from this, and finally, fall asleep and occupy nightmares about this,” Fleel explains. “I have set myself a thousand years in the future with the same feelings. There are so many good things I can worry about when the world falls apart, but it’s still not impossible to watch without meaningless fears.”
“I am not easy” marks the band’s first release since 2022’s “Arranging” and their debut with Borns Losers Records. The album comprises eight tracks that draw inspiration from the nostalgia of the 80s and 90s while maintaining the group’s resilient sound post-punk.
Discussing the album’s themes, Flegel shares: “A well of gloomy things that you can write about, it seems, has not dried up, and lyrics are where I still lean to draw from. Pouring all my anxieties into song is often the only way to get through the day. Some songs exist in a world of barren plains of burned earth, covered with dust of shame, fear, and death, where everything I love are things that ultimately destroy me.”
