Pulp Announces New Album
Pulp has revealed their first new album in 24 years, titled 'More', scheduled for release through Rough Trade Records on June 6.
Production and Collaborations
The SHEFFIELD group recorded the album at Orbb Studio in Walthamstow with producer James Monkeys (known for his work with Arctic Monkeys and Fontaines DC). The record features arrangements by Richard Jones for strings, performed by the Elysian Collective, with backing vocals from the Eno family on one track.
“This is the first PULP album since We Love Life in 2001. Yes: the first pulp album in 24 years,” Jarvis Cocker explains. “When we started touring again in 2023, we practiced a new song called Hymn of the North during soundchecks and eventually played it at the end of our second night at Sheffield Arena. This seemed to open the gateways: we came up with the rest of the songs on this album in the first half of 2024.”
Single Release and Music Video
The group has shared the first single from the album, 'Spike Island', co-written with Jason Bakl. The track was inspired by Bakl’s experience at the infamous Spike Island concert by the Stone Roses, where the DJ repeatedly shouted, “Spike Island, comes to life!” throughout the day.
Regarding the music video, Cocker adds: “It was my initial idea to create a kind of ‘making of’ video to show how the photographs were taken, but as soon as I uploaded the first shot to the AI application, I realized that wouldn’t work. Therefore, I decided to “go with the flow” and see where the computer took me.”
The album will be available in various vinyl editions, including an exclusive 45 RPM edition available in PULP’s online store and Rough Trade Records’ website. Other options include “Theersa” green, blue sky, marble, “southern Yorkshire sunset,” and “marble” and “shit Kriya.”
