Producer of ‘Total Unknown’ Developing Films on Syd Barrett and Cass Elliot

Producer’s Upcoming Biopics

Producer working on the new Bob Dylan biopic. Complete Unknown intends to focus on films about Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett and Cass Elliot from The Mamas & The Papas.

Parker’s Insights on Future Projects

Peter Jasen owns Veritas Entertainment, which helped secure the rights to Dylan’s music archive and life story for the biopic starring Timothée Chalamet. In an appearance on City with Matthew Belloni, he stated that more high-profile projects are in development.

“Due to our involvement in Bob’s work Complete Unknown, we’re fortunate to be collaborating right now with Wash Westmoreland, an outstanding writer and director, on a film about Syd Barrett, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd,” he confirmed.

“We’ve had a few Zoom meetings with Cass Elliot’s mom’s estate, we’ve met her daughter Owen, and we are close to acquiring the rights to her book, My Mom Cass.”

Jasen has not provided a release date for either biopic or a timeline for their production.

A Glimpse into the Lives of Iconic Musicians

Barrett founded Pink Floyd in 1965 as frontman and primary songwriter before departing in 1968 due to issues related to drug use and mental health. He spent the remainder of his life in Cambridge, away from the spotlight, until his passing in 2006.

Meanwhile, Elliott, better known as Mama Cass, gained fame as a member of The Mamas and The Papas in the 1960s. She unfortunately passed away in 1974 at the age of 32.

In a four-star review, Complete Unknown, NME wrote: “So many performances in Complete Unknown seethe with such tense, exciting energy, whether it’s because Dylan and Baez bicker during ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ or he manages to encapsulate the angst of an entire city awaiting nuclear Armageddon in an anti-Cold War protest song.”
