Today (February 26), he unveiled the latest single, which serves as a preview of his forthcoming solo album, “Seed Better Alive.” This follows the title track, which was released as the lead single.

With “Calvados,” Dortort takes a closer look at the world around him, finding inspiration in nature, particularly in Normandy where he resides.

Described as the “Anthem of Mastery and Patience,” the song features a calm, inspiring sound that portrays the life of a farmer through its lyrics.

“There is an old horse of carts with a mane like a Vir, pulling a cart along the village path / rolling throughout the day / tending to the garden / laying hay,” he sings gently in the acoustic introduction. “The farmer is sitting, governing the reign of the land – directing the cart through the Normandy trails / slow and steady – this is the path / as it is / the way it remains … “

Inspiration Behind “Calvados”

Discussing his inspiration for the track, Dortort recalled: “In my town, there’s a guy with a shop specializing in Calvados and ciders; apple juice becomes cider which then turns into Calvados. He took me on a tour of old Calvados producers in his van, stopping at their locations. This is that story.

“The line “Slow and steady is the path! / The way it was, how it is…” reflects that reality. These farms have been there for generations. You can’t rush; you wait for the apples to grow and the seasons to change. This isn’t a lab experiment. Ultimately, you receive this incredible elixir. Fire water!”

Along with the new song, Dortort invited fans to showcase their creativity by producing an official video for the track. After numerous submissions from around the world, the animation created by Natalie Sidorenko / Sadlip was selected as the winning entry.

“I immediately envisioned how the loving relationship between the farmer and his wife should intertwine with their common craft: the creation of Calvados,” Sidorenko shared regarding the final design.

“You still go out there and sing them. I believe this record has enough melancholy to fill Jerry’s good size,” he remarked. “The idea is to throw it out to the audience and see if it resonates.”

Dortort has also announced an appearance at this year’s Great Shoot Festival in Brighton. He hinted at a potential reunion with The Libertines for 2025.
