Parents Accuse Chairman of Interference
Parents of the K-Pop girl group Newjeans (also known as NJZ) have accused the chairman of Hybe, Bang Si-Kyuk, of attempting to cancel the upcoming performance of the women’s group at Complexcon Hong Kong. Ador has denied these claims.
Concerns Raised Over Performance Cancellation
Parents from Newjeans were charged on February 19 through Approval on their Instagram page concerning several issues. Besides the allegation that Bang tried to “interfere” with their appearance at the harbor complex in Hong Kong, they also addressed applications made by associations in South Korea regarding issues in New Dzhai-Gibe.
“We heard from Complexcon employees who assisted us in preparing for the performance that the chairman of Hybe, Bang Si-Hyuk, personally contacted the organizers in the United States and asked them to cancel the New Angeles performance,” they stated. “We felt that Hybe was primarily focused on profit rather than supporting the members for their success. We also received reports that Ador attempted to undermine the group in other instances.”
The group’s parents also reached out directly to the management, claiming that he “did not respond” to the email they sent in April 2024. “If you have something to say, please reach out to us instead of going through others,” they expressed. “We don’t understand why the chairman of Hybe is directly involved in such a dispute. Do you really think he is not in collaboration with Ador and Hybe?”
Confirmation of Upcoming Performance
The statement confirmed that Newjeans will indeed perform at Complexcon Hong Kong, adding that the members are preparing for their set with “joy and excitement at the thought of showcasing to fans across the globe, unhindered by Hybe and Ador.”
Ador, a subsidiary of Hybe, has since responded to the parents’ claims from Newjeans. “Ador never attempted to cancel the performance in Hong Kong,” said a representative, as translated by SOOMPI. “We also confirmed that chairman Bang Si-Kyuk never contacted anyone regarding the performance in Hong Kong.”
The company reiterated its “previous request to the media” to continue using the “official” name for Newjeans in its reports. Ador also publicly requested the organizers of Complexcon “to collaborate with Ador as they move forward with the performance” in accordance with the group’s contract with the label.
