Oasis Aiming for Number One: Their First Top Hit in 31 Years

The Oasis Aims for Number One

The oasis “Former Christmas single” What What Hate “is on track to achieve its first number one in 31 years.

Vinyl Release and Competition

The autonomous single from 1994, which was released on December 18 after their debut album “Definitely Maybe,” was reissued on Friday (February 21) on vinyl with a pink and blue spray design, featuring remastered audio of the B-side ‘It’s Good To Be Free.’

While the group has never topped the charts during the Christmas season, they came close in the past with classics like “Stay Another Day” by East 17 and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which both did not reach the number one spot.

Currently, the single is competing with “Not Such” by Kendrick Lamar, who is in second place on the British singles chart, trailing by only 500 units. “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan is also in the mix, according to the Official Chart Company.

Noel Gallagher’s Behind-the-Scenes Experience

Speaking about the video for the track with Alan Carr earlier, Noel Gallagher explained that he had a wild night before the shoot.

“That day I was very drunk. I went out all night. The fact that I wear, you usually do not wear such things in video shoots,” he said at that time.

“I was in a pub the night before and woke up at the bus stop in Maida Vale,” he recounted.

He continued: “This was before mobile phones, and I had no idea where the video location was, nor could I contact anyone.”

“Someone from the record label happened to drive by while I was trying to hail a taxi, even though I had no idea where I was heading, but it made for a good video.”

Upcoming Releases and Tours

Later this week, the group will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their fourth studio album “Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.”

The new edition of the album is set to release on Friday (February 28)—the same day the original album was first released in 2000—featuring a Purple Marble LP.

“Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” was released under Liam and Noel Gallagher’s own label “Big Brother” Ltd, which was established in January 2000 after the abrupt closure of their prior record label.

You can pre-order the 25th anniversary edition of Oasis’s “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” here.

Four videos from the album also recently received remastered treatment and will be released every Friday at 12:00 GMT until March 7.

This news comes after the group announced a special edition of the 15th anniversary of their compilation album “Time Flies… 1994-2009,” which is set to debut for Record Store Day 2025. Last year they celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album “Definitely Maybe,” followed by a reissue of “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” in 2020.

The oasis is preparing for a massive return tour this year, marking their first live performances together since 2009. This anticipated campaign will kick off with shows in UK and Ireland stadiums this summer, followed by a series of dates in North America.

They will round off with two additional shows at Wembley Stadium in London at the end of September before heading to South Korea and Japan. Further concerts are also lined up in Australia, leading to an extensive tour in South America in November of this year.

For the British and Irish leg, the oasis will be supported by Richard Ashcroft and his band. North American dates will feature Cage the Elephant as the opening act.
