Nirvana Reunites with Post Malone on Vocals at the SNL 50th Anniversary Concert

Nirvana Reunites for Special Performance

Nirvana came together for the second time in just two weeks during Saturday evening on the air for SNL 50: Return home. This performance featured Post Malone on vocals. Check out the images below.

Star-Studded Reunion at Fireaid Benefit

The iconic band’s surviving members, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Pat Smear, first reunited at the Fireaid Benefit concert in January, joining forces with notable artists such as St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, and Joan Jett’s daughter, Violet Grohl, to perform a series of hits.

They returned once again to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SNL, which took place last night (February 14). This reunion followed Grohl’s announcement as a performer earlier this month, though it remains uncertain whether he would join Nirvana, Foo Fighters, or perform solo.

This time around, the lead vocals were handled by Post Malone, who had previously covered 15 Nirvana songs in 2020 alongside Travis Barker from Blink-182. Grohl praised Malone’s performance back then, referring to him as “super cool.”

The set was introduced by Adam Sandler before they launched into “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Take a look below.

Upcoming Celebrations for SNL 50

The festivities will carry on into Sunday (February 16) with the SNL 50 Anniversary Special, featuring performances by Paul McCartney, Sabrina Carpenter, and Paul Simon.

SNL is celebrating its 50th anniversary, having launched its 50th season at the end of September. Among the special content planned for this milestone is a feature film titled Saturday Night, a documentary directed by Questlove, focusing on the music programming and much more.

In a three-star review of Saturday Night, Jordan Bassett wrote for NME: “The film lacks sufficient narrative drive and genuine comedy. However, as it nears its inevitable conclusion, something amusing occurs. From the chaos, it emerges as an inspiring ode to seizing the moment, saying ‘yes,’ and hoping for the best.”

“You can either produce ‘half-baked shows with half a donkey,’ as Dafoe wonderfully illustrates at one point, or you can craft a narrative. This is what Saturday Night nearly accomplishes. As any impromptu comedian might inform you: stick with it, and you might stumble upon gold.”
