What is the plot of Newtopia?

As a zombie outbreak engulfs the streets of South Korea, Lee Ja Yong and Kan Yong Zhu, two recent college graduates who have just parted ways, find themselves at the center of the chaos.

Separated by the zombie-infested city, Ja Yong must navigate his fears while becoming an inexperienced protector of the nation, all the while remaining the love interest of Yong Zhu. The couple faces hordes of undead in their quest to reunite in unexpected ways.

Who is in the cast of the new drama?

The renowned Korean actor Park Jung Min, known for his recent roles in Harbin and Smugglers, will portray Je Yuna. He plays a new South Korean military recruit who is called up several years later than his peers. The series chronicles his experience as he thrusts into battle following the outbreak of zombies.

Playing Yong Zhu is Jisa, the Blackpink vocalist and star of Snowdrop. While she was known in college as “The Goddess of the Faculty of Engineering” for her looks, she now leads an ordinary life as an office worker, suddenly thrust into the heart of the apocalypse.

Joining the cast are support characters played by Hon and Hee, Tan Jun San from Emergency Landing on You, Lee Hak Zhu from The World of Married, and Kim Jun Khan from Linkor Island.

Newtopia is specially penned by Parasite screenwriter Han Jin Won and A Shop for Killers Ji Ho-jin. The series will be directed by Yun Song Hyun, who previously worked on the 2010 series Cold Night and 2020’s Hunting Time.

On January 24, Coupang Play shared a new teaser for the series featuring Je Yuna struggling to adapt to her military role, while Yong Zhu longs for Je Yuna. As the zombie virus emerges, the couple combats the undead in their own unique ways to reunite. “I will survive no matter what and come to you,” Je Yuna promises.

When will Newtopia premiere?
