Latest Single and Collaboration
Last month (January 17), Neil Young and Chrome Hearts released their single: “Big changes are coming.” This marks their first release as a group, featuring Young alongside Mika Nelson on guitar, Kory McCormic on bass, Anthony Laurfo on drums, and a touch of Oldham on the Farfis organ.
Now, Young has taken to his blog, Neil Young Archive, to provide fans with a positive update on the group’s upcoming projects. On Tuesday (February 4), Young announced that he had completed the record for his debut album with producers Lu Adler (who is also his son-in-law) and John Hanlon at Rick Rubin’s studio in Shagrin La, Malibu.
Young expressed, “Now I’m in the process of creating vinyl, compact discs, and digital copies. I’m very happy and relieved that it’s all done in such a short period. The album’s artwork was completed and submitted by Jenis Heo. Now, I’m focused on the lyrical sheets, hoping to handwrite the lyrics and finalize them over time…”
The legendary musician continued, “I feel incredibly happy today, knowing that I created an album which, I believe, people will enjoy. I hope it’s out by April. It would be quite a quick turnaround. Collaborating with Chrome Hearts has been a joy; we recorded at Shagrin in Malibu. I composed these songs in November and December.”
Young also shared his excitement about taking these songs on the road soon: “They feel fresh, and I’m thrilled all this is ready for you. It won’t be long, and it will be fantastic to have new songs to perform on the road this summer in Europe, the USA, and Canada. We can’t wait for this!”
The exact dates for the European tour with Chrome Hearts are yet to be confirmed. Young mentioned in his blog in November that they were considering, “The presented tour didn’t remain at the requested venues and is being adjusted to lower any internal show risks. Indoor shows could be too risky health-wise, and we want to avoid canceling any performances due to health concerns this summer.”
One date that has been confirmed is Neil Young and Chrome Hearts’ appearance in June.
The singer announced his booking at the festival earlier this year but initially withdrew, feeling it was a “corporate shutdown.” Just days after his post, he shared an update stating that he had reversed his decision and would indeed perform as one of three headliners in 2025.
Currently, the only confirmed artist is Rod Stewart, who is set to perform on the desired legend slot on Sunday afternoon. Notably, Neil Rogers and Chich are also scheduled to perform at Glastonbury 2025. Coincidentally, they will return to the beloved farm site, accepting awards last year.
Other potential headliners include Olivia Rodrigo, Sam Fender, The 1975, Taylor Swift, and Stevie Wonder. The full lineup for the festival is typically announced in March.
In other news, Neil Young recently revealed plans to release his “lost” album “Oceanside CountrySide” from the 70s and expressed his admiration for the “great” new biographical film about Bob Dylan, Full UnknownField.
