Upcoming Rally Details
Both Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez have been holding rallies named “Fight Against the Oligarchy” in predominantly Republican cities throughout the United States, enlisting Young and Baez for their upcoming stop in Los Angeles.
Senator Sanders and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez will gather at Grand Park in Los Angeles, accompanied by musicians like Maggie Rogers, Indigo De Souza, Jeff Rosenstock, Red Pear, and the Raising the Gospel Choir on April 12.
As detailed on his website, Sanders aims to “carry out real discussions all over America about how we can move forward to challenge the oligarchs and corporate interests wielding significant power and influence in this country.” Attendance is free, and you can register here.
Criticism of Political Figures
Like Sanders, Young has been a vocal critic of billionaire President Donald Trump in recent years, calling him “the worst president in the history of our great country.” Similarly, in 2020, he filed a lawsuit against Trump for copyright violation due to the unauthorized use of his song “Rockin’ in the Free World,” alongside various open letters on his website condemning the repeated unauthorized use of his music.
Last year, he granted permission to Kamala Harris to use one of his songs in her campaign for vice presidency.
After a brief hiatus, Young is preparing to return to the UK and Europe as part of his world tour “Love Earth” alongside Chrome Hearts. This includes performances at the Glastonbury Festival at the end of June and a slot at BST Hyde Park next month. In August, he is expected to return to the USA for a series of North American tour dates.
Nonetheless, the Canadian folk legend recently expressed concerns about his ability to return to the United States following his European tour, amid ongoing criticisms of the president. This is particularly relevant after the Trump administration deported and detained numerous immigrants based on their political views, including pro-Palestinian activists and those who support Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.
“This is true, folks,” he wrote on his blog. “If you speak out against Trump or his administration, you may be barred from returning to the United States. For Canadians like me, and for those who hold dual citizenship, who knows? We will all find out together.”
