Motley Crüe Cancels Performance
Motley Crüe has announced the cancellation of their headlining slot at the Boardwalk Rock Festival next month, as frontman Vince Neil recovers after a “required medical procedure” – read more below.
The band was set to return to the stage at the Ocean City festival in Maryland on May 17.
This performance would have marked their first since they postponed their planned residency in Las Vegas last month. However, they have informed fans that they will not appear while the singer recuperates. Alice In Chains will take their place.
Statement from the Band
In their statement, the group clarified: “Motley Crüe will not be able to perform at Boardwalk Rock in Ocean City, Maryland, on May 17, as Vince Neil recovers after the necessary medical procedure recently recommended by his doctors.”
“Vince’s health is our top priority, and we fully support him in focusing on his recovery. Please join us in wishing him well.”
“We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the show and appreciate your understanding. Our friends in Alice In Chains have graciously agreed to step in on May 17, and we are extremely grateful to them for delivering their amazing show at Boardwalk Rock.”
“Thank you to all Crueheads for your unwavering support. We cannot wait for Vince to fully recover and return to the stage.”
Back in February, the group issued a statement following a tragic incident involving Neil’s private plane. While Neil was not aboard, his friend Rain Andreani and another companion were injured, though their injuries were not life-threatening.
The two were taken to the hospital along with the second pilot, who also sustained injuries. Tragically, the pilot of the aircraft was killed in the accident.
A spokesperson for Neil shared details of the crash via Motley Crüe’s official social media channels: “For reasons unknown, the plane veered off a runway and collided with another parked aircraft.”
“There were two pilots and two passengers on board Mr. Neil’s plane. Mr. Neil was not on the aircraft. Further details regarding the crash are not available, as the situation is rapidly evolving and the investigation is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, the band postponed their upcoming 11 shows at Dolby Live in Las Vegas, originally scheduled from March 28 to April 19. These dates have now been rescheduled to run from September 12 to October 3, and all previously purchased tickets will be honored – You can find remaining tickets here.
Band members Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, and John 5 stated in a joint message: “Please join us in wishing Vince a swift recovery. We look forward to him getting back to performing in Vegas this September.”
The precise details of Neil’s medical procedure remain unclear, aside from being recommended by his doctors.
Last October, Motley Crüe released a new EP titled “Cancelled,” which includes a cover of the classic track “Fight For Your Right” by the Beastie Boys. Additionally, they released the single “Dog of War” in April 2024, marking their first new material in five years. During that time, founding bassist Nikki Sixx shared with NME: “For us, the only constant in our career has been change, and it comes with its ups and downs. We have survived this for over 43 years, and sometimes we are not cool, sometimes we are the coolest band, and at times we feel unnoticed.”
He continued: “We live within our own bubble, doing what we want to do. It is great when people enjoy what we create, but we don’t feel the need to mold our work for public reception. We follow our passion, and we hope people appreciate it. If they don’t, we understand.”
