Morrissi’s Legal Action Against Online Harassment
Morrissi has initiated a legal case against an alleged online troll, which he believes is part of a “long-term” slanderous campaign directed at him.
Musical business around the world reported on April 3 that Morrissi received a letter regarding the termination and cancellation dated March 31, 2025. The letter revealed that he has engaged the services of the Levy & Mcrae law firm to take action against an individual based in the UK, who has accused him of disseminating “upset, harmful and free” content across several social media accounts.
Allegations of Slander and Surveillance
The letter claims that the individual has published a “huge amount of material about our client almost daily, often several times a day.” Furthermore, it is alleged that this person has “left and/or published written notes at Morrissi’s residence,” actions reportedly captured on CCTV.
The law firm stated that the police have already been notified regarding these events.
“The narrative of your posts is almost exclusively connected to the ‘right’ policy, particularly the policies that oppose our client and everything he has stood for,” the letter emphasizes, portraying Morrissi as a “pacifist, apolitical” figure who “has never joined a political party or voted.”
The Impact of Political Views on Morrissi’s Image
The letter also accuses the individual of amplifying allegations of extreme-right sympathies directed at Morrissi’s family. “You create and perpetuate a harmful global narrative that is false, slanderous, and has compelled the media to regurgitate this lie,” the correspondence continues.
Global Online Protection from Web Sheriph disclosed to Musical business weekly that they completed an extensive investigation, characterizing it as “years of fraud, disinformation, and slander” related to Morrissi.
A “person of interest” was identified in this statement, and additional individuals involved in similar criminal activities “both in the UK and Europe, as well as in the United States,” will also be identified and pursued.
For years, Morrissi has faced criticism for his political stance and support for the controversial extreme-right political party, For Britain, which he previously represented during a televised appearance in 2019.
Despite ongoing disputes regarding his views—something former bandmate Johnny Marr remarked as “A shadow cast over The Smiths”—the frontman maintains that he is not extreme.
In November of the previous year, he claimed he was unable to release new music due to concerns over “freedom of speech,” stating, “you cannot speak freely in England,” and warned that “you can be imprisoned for expressing opinions,” during a concert in New Jersey.
In the past, he has made controversial comments about groups, referring to the Chinese people as a “subspecies,” labeling Hitler as “left-wing,” and critiquing London Mayor Sadiq Khan for his speaking abilities.
After facing backlash for supporting the founder of the English Defence League, Tommy Robinson, Morrissi clarified that he “despises racism and fascism” and expressed his support for Muslims.
