Morcheeba Marks 30 Years with Engaging New Single ‘Call For Love’: ‘The World Feels Confusing and Complex Today’

Morcheeba’s Anniversary Celebration

Morcheeba celebrated their 30th anniversary with the release of a new single “Call For Love.” Check it out below.

Latest Release Details

Dropped today (January 21), the new track marks the trichop duo’s first single in four years, following “Blackest Blue,” which was released in 2021.

Produced by band member Ross Godfrey himself, the new release features a hazy, laid-back vibe, capturing the same essence that first put the duo on the map. “Now I know how you know/My every stupid mistake/I admit I’m late/The light bulb comes on/The light showed my dark side,” Skye Edwards sings over hypnotic, reverb-drenched instrumentals.

Tonight we’ll call on love/ To share this blessed life/ And then you’ll believe it/ You’ll be adored/ We’ll set our world on fire

Speaking about the inspiration for the single, Godfrey stated: “Call For Love is very grounding, both musically and emotionally. The world is so confusing and complex right now.”

Reflecting on the Lyrics

Skye continued: “The apocalypse is always on the horizon, both personal and global. It’s nice to find refuge in music and love with people close to us. When it came to writing the lyrics for this song, I thought, ‘What would I want to hear from a certain person if and when they were ready to apologize?’ As it turned out, that was also what I needed to tell them.”

The song is Morcheeba’s first release of the new year, marking three decades since the group’s formation. Formed in London in 1995, the duo has toured the world, sold more than 10 million albums, and released fan favorites such as their 1996 debut “Who Can You Trust?” and “The Great Calm” in 1998.

The group has also produced an album for David Byrne of Talking Heads and created soundtracks for Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh.

According to a new press release, the single is not a standalone track but the first cut from a new album expected to be released later this year.

Last year, the band was included in the lineup for Chaka Khan’s Meltdown festival, alongside Lady Blackbird, Mica Paris, and Incognito.
