The track is the latest single from his upcoming album Every Dawn’s A Mountain, which will be his third studio album.
Exploring Themes of Hope and Heartache
Following previously released singles “Babylon” and “Dissolve,” the record’s latest teaser marks the only duo on the tracklist and explores feelings of hope and heartache.
“I lost my way from the signs / They showed me nothing / Only a faint trace in your eyes, Tamino sings the melancholic opening verse, surrounded by stormy instrumentals and smooth acoustic guitar riffs.
“Oh labyrinth of stars, They led me nowhere, But a boy with a blue heart, Who believed in someone. – Mitski continues. “I live in ruins/Sanctuary/Where a man praised a woman/And she loved him sacredly/It shocks me“

“I usually write alone and let other people in much later, after the songs have taken shape,” Tamino said of the duo. “Collaborating with Alessandro (Bucciarati, producer) has been an eye-opening experience in the sense that for the first time I feel like songwriting as a duo results in songs that I feel are worth releasing.
“On this album, ‘Sanctuary’ is the only track that was born entirely out of that working dynamic. This is also the latest addition to the record. Those things, combined with the fact that the song features a second voice on a very personal record, makes the track a little standout,” he continued.
“Still, it feels like an important track on this album. I won’t analyze it here, suffice it to say that I can’t imagine this record without it. “Also, it pricks me every time I hear Mitski’s voice soaring over “Sanctuary,” especially when I remember my time in Amsterdam where he hovered for days.”
As for the album as a whole, “Every Dawn’s A Mountain” is scheduled for release on March 21st. It was produced by Tamino and longtime collaborator PJ Martens and aims to explore themes of loss, displacement, breakup, and letting go of the past.
It was primarily written in New York City, but was recorded in a New Orleans church, a Brussels studio, and in various hotel rooms while on tour.
Tamino will preview Every Dawn’s a Mountain later this year at a series of intimate UK and EU launch shows. Then, towards the end of March, he will embark on an extensive North American tour. Visit here to pre-order the album and here to buy tickets for upcoming shows.
As for Mitski, the singer had a huge 2024, which included an appearance on All Points East, where there was a hint of “Brat Summer,” and a nomination for the 2024 AIM Awards alongside Fontaines DC, Kneecap, and Kim Gordon.
