Mike Harris Appointed CEO of UMG Nashville; Dave Cobb Named Chief Creative Director

UMG Nashville Reorganization

Universal Music Group has restructured its operations in Nashville.

The esteemed leader of Music Row, Mike Harris, who previously served as the chief executive officer of UMG Nashville, has been appointed general director.

Dave Cobb, a nine-time Grammy Award-winning producer whose work has profoundly influenced the music landscape, has been appointed as the main creative director.

As previously reported, Cindy Mabe, Chairman and CEO of UMG Nashville since April 2023, is departing the company to “pursue new opportunities.”

Commitment to Growth

In his announcement, Sir Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of UMG, stated: “We see an incredible opportunity to expand our presence in Nashville and leverage our leading service card.”

Leadership Changes

Harris joined UMG Nashville as EVP and COO in 2016, following 15 years at EMI, where he held various positions, most recently as EVP and GM for Caroline, Capitol Music Group/EMI units.

UMG acknowledges that Dave Cobb is one of the most sought-after producers in Music City, transcending genres.

He has collaborated with numerous artists and produced a multitude of albums for superstars, including Chris Stapleton’s 6x-Platinum How I Forgive You.

His recent projects include albums for Mumford & Sons, Red Clay Strays, Zayn, Greta Van Fleet, Jamey Johnson, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, and the upcoming biopic on Bruce Springsteen, contributing to his impressive and diverse discography alongside high-profile artists like Barry Gibb, Slash, Marcus King, Teddy Phillips, Stevie Nicks, Zach Bryan, Colter Wall, and many more.

Additionally, Cobb’s work in the film industry has led him to serve as a creative consultant on projects like the Elvis biopic by Baz Luhrmann, Jessica Chastain’s portrayal of Tammy Faye, and the upcoming “Hunger Games” prequel, along with producing Lady Gaga’s Grammy-winning song Always Remember Us This Way.
