Mia Ray’s New Single
Mia Ray has released her latest single “Not Enough”, which is part of her forthcoming debut album “Hi, Nice to Meet You”, set to be released on March 14.
Thematic Exploration
The new track from the Melbourne singer-songwriter delves into the complexities of secret love and self-discovery, drawing heavily from literary influences. This release marks the third single from her anticipated album, following the tracks “Fake A Smile” and “Nice To Meet Me”.
“During COVID, I really got into reading. I enjoyed The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo… this was all prior to my personal awakening. It’s quite amusing; your body often understands before your mind does,” Ray explains. “The story revolves around two Hollywood actresses who are in a concealed relationship. I collaborated with Pip Norman and Rob Amoruso to write part of this song.”
“I remember thinking, ‘Guys, this book speaks to me!’ I felt it was a way for me to gradually confront my sexuality without explicitly revealing it. I wanted to write a song influenced by this unique book while keeping it somewhat ambiguous.”
Reflecting on the album’s title, she mentions, “The first thought I had was that it felt like I was meeting myself again after so long. The phrase ‘Hi, nice to meet you’ kept resonating with me. It felt original and rare, and it was like a realization: ‘Oh, this is who I am; that makes sense.’”
