Megan’s Legal Battle Progresses
Megan, known for her stallion, has made significant strides in her initial legal battle against YouTuber and supporter Tori Lanez, Milagro Gramz.
Details of the Lawsuit
In October, the rapper filed a lawsuit against Gramz—whose real name is Milagro Elizabeth Cooper—accusing her of sharing explicit content of Megan and spreading falsehoods about her association with Lanez. The lawsuit additionally accused Gramz of “cyberstalking,” intentionally inflicting emotional distress, and invasion of privacy.
Recently, a judge in Florida ruled that Megan could proceed with her lawsuit against Gramz after determining that she had established a “convincing case” that the blogger acted with “reckless disregard for the truth” in her postings about the rapper.
In court documents obtained from Rolling Stone, Chief Judge Cecilia Altonaga stated that Gramz’s posts “depict a campaign, not journalism.”
“The defendant denies the accusations of slander and claims of ‘pure hatred,’ asserting that a ‘malicious intent’ or ‘failure to investigate’ does not amount to actual malice,” the judge wrote. “However, the plaintiff’s allegations indicate much more than simple negligence; they suggest a deliberate campaign to tarnish her reputation. This is sufficient to meet the required standard.”
In response, Gramz’s attorney, Michael Panger, stated, “This ruling does not reflect the merits of the case. The plaintiff must now substantiate her claims with credible and acceptable evidence.”
In December, Megan’s legal team revised their lawsuit, asserting they obtained prison calls from Lanez, which they claim demonstrate that the rapper was orchestrating a campaign against Megan from behind bars.
Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August of last year for an incident occurring in July 2020 when Megan was shot in the feet after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s house.
He was found guilty on three counts: one count of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, one count of carrying a concealed, loaded, and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and one count of discharging a firearm with gross negligence. The rapper maintains his innocence and has a chance to appeal the decision in July this year.
Since then, Megan has successfully secured a five-year restraining order against Lanez after expressing to the court her fear of being shot again if he were released.
Megan discussed the incident in her documentary Megan you, foal: according to her, released in October on Amazon Prime Video. She also provided what she called the “final” response to the incident, reflecting on the public humiliation she faced when making her claims.
