Max George’s Health Scare
The Wanted's Max George expressed that he felt he was “dying” after being rushed to the hospital for heart issues last month.
The singer took to social media to inform fans that he had been hospitalized following tests that uncovered “problems” with his heart. Initially, he described feeling “really bad” and was undergoing various tests. Ultimately, it was confirmed that he needed surgery due to a heart condition.
George shared that he suffers from a “2:1 block” in his heart, leading to a slower or irregular heartbeat. Shortly after, he underwent heart surgery, had a pacemaker installed, and was discharged just in time for Christmas.
Facing the Reality of Heart Problems
In a recent interview with Sun, George recounted a moment when he was so uncertain of his survival that he began explaining how to manage his assets on his phone.
“If I could go from a state of absolute superiority to a state where I was told, ‘The bottom half of your heart isn't working,’ I kept thinking, ‘What if the top half stops working overnight?'” he shared.
“When they tell you that, you truly understand your responsibilities. I have a partner, Macy (Smith), and I have a family,” he noted.
December 13, just two days after his initial admission, proved to be the “worst” day as both his blood pressure and heart rate significantly dropped.
George recounted: “It was pretty close that night; I felt like my neck was squeezing, and that’s when the real panic began. I felt like I was dying. That was the worst part; I felt emotional.”
Upon learning that a pacemaker had been fitted, he expressed relief: “Now we were working on something. I was absolutely delighted.”
Post-Surgery Recovery and Updates
Following the operation, George recalled: “The first face I saw was Maisie’s, and I remember it was very sweet—like it was the first time I felt like a real person again and I had a heart.”
Earlier this month, he updated fans online about being back in the hospital. On Instagram, he mentioned experiencing a strange sensation after getting a pacemaker and sought advice from fans regarding their experiences.
When he was discharged from the hospital late last month, George indicated that he was not entirely in the clear, as doctors needed to investigate a potential lung problem further.
He also shared an image post-surgery, showcasing a pacemaker placed beneath a tattoo that reads “08/04/1988″—the birth date of his late bandmate Tom Parker, who passed away in March 2022 at the age of 33 after battling brain cancer.
