Max George has announced his return to work following a long trip to recover from heart surgery.

In February, the singer revealed that he had undergone a second operation shortly after being fitted with a pacemaker due to a 2:1 heart block, a condition that causes the heart to beat slower or with an irregular rhythm.

Shortly after, it was announced that The Wanted 2.0 would postpone their first UK headline performance while he was in recovery. They had planned to launch a new version of the group featuring two members, completed by Shiva Ceseswaran at the Manchester Cathedral.

Now, George has shared that he will be returning to work, joining the British and European tour of The War of the Worlds.

Initially, the singer was announced to participate in performances beginning in April 2024, with the musical’s creator Jeff Wayne. He will be joined by his girlfriend and former EastEnders star Macy Smith, who will portray his wife on stage.

In a statement shared yesterday (March 19), George said: “Hello everyone! The War of the Worlds tour is obvious that the last few months have been tough, but after extensive hard work and rehabilitation, I’m feeling much better and ready to perform throughout the tour.

“Sharing this experience with Macy is something I’m sure I’ll never forget.”

Health Updates and Thoughts

The singer first discussed his health issues last December, informing fans that he was hospitalized after tests revealed “problems” with his heart. He mentioned that he initially “felt really bad,” leading to further medical evaluations, which resulted in the confirmation that he would require surgery for heart disease.

George explained further that he had the “2:1 block” in his heart, meaning his heart beat slower or more irregularly than normal. Shortly after, he underwent surgery to implant the pacemaker and was discharged just in time for Christmas.

Previously, George revealed that he thought he might “die” when he was hospitalized due to his heart condition. Speaking with The Sun, the singer expressed that he was so convinced of this that he began to jot down instructions for what to do with his assets.

“It was quite close that night; it really seemed like my neck was closing, and that’s when the panic really set in. I felt like I was dying. It was the worst experience; I felt overwhelmed emotionally,” he recalled.

Upon his release from the hospital, George noted that he was not entirely out of the woods, as doctors found additional issues with his lungs that required further investigation.
