Matt Sorum’s Reflections on Guns N’ Roses Reunion
Former Guns N’ Roses member Matt Sorum has shared his thoughts on being left out of the band’s reunion, stating he is “much more at peace” with it than he initially felt.
Sorum appeared on LEGENDS: Podcast, on All Day Vinyl, where he discussed whether he had an opportunity to see Guns N’ Roses perform following the reunion with guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan.
“They invited me to play (with them as a guest), but I turned it down,” he shared on the podcast. Chatterbox reports. “I didn’t think it made sense to go play – what? – two songs and then what to do? I mean, I do music. I play with musicians.
Coming to Terms with Exclusion
“So that’s cool. Whatever they do is cool. I still live this wandering apprentice dream. I kind of like where I’m at when I take unexpected turns…”
He then admitted that he had “come to terms” with being left out of the reunion. “To be honest, it was a little weird at first,” Sorum explained. “I was like, ‘Okay, well, it’s a reunion. Okay, well, let this be a reunion. But everything went wrong. So I’m much more at peace with it than I was in the beginning.”
Additionally, he revealed that The Beatles’ Ringo Starr reached out to him to discuss his exclusion. “The guy who called me and told me about it was Ringo (Starr),” he recalled. “And he said, ‘You weren’t invited to the party.’ I said, ‘No, I wasn’t invited to the party.’ And you know this, being human, if you don’t get invited to a party, it’s going to hurt a little. It’s like I wasn’t invited to the party.”
Sorum continued: “But he told me a story about him, John (Lennon), and Paul (McCartney). And I was like, ‘Is he really saying…?’ He’s talking about John Lennon. This is crazy.” That’s when they told me: The Universe is on my side. I’m on the phone with Ringo and talking about how I wasn’t invited to the party. This is nonsense, I’m like nonsense!”

“For any G’N’R fan, Glasto’s set undoubtedly represents one of the strongest sets the rock veterans have given in recent years – completely free of sound issues, Axl Rose’s vocals in pretty good shape, Slash at the top of his game and ‘Perhaps the second biggest shock of the evening was that the band started their set on time.’
