Reflections on Recording
In a recent interview featured in the latest issue of Metal Hammer, the frontman reminisced about creating the band’s sophomore album, which marks its 20th anniversary this year.
“Are you recording an album? It was easy and relaxed,” Heaphy shared with the publication. “We entered the studio fully prepared, jammed with our collected ideas, and sang out our words. It was a thrilling time filled with optimism.”
Musical Inspirations
Heaphy took a moment to discuss the stories behind all 12 tracks on the album. When reflecting on the final song, “Declaration”, he revealed how Matt Bellamy and his bandmates inspired him, particularly drawing from Muse’s third album, “Absolution”.
“This song is crazy,” he remarked. “You can hear the influence of Muse’s ‘Absolution’ in the middle, but it also carries vibes from ‘Balance of Emperor IX’ in the verse.”
He elaborated that the song conveys a message of compassion and unity, adding, “What I love is that it represents the champion of all walks of life that I’ve always been. As someone who embodies compassion, empathy, and humanity, I have friends from diverse backgrounds, races, and orientations. How could you not wish for everyone to enjoy life?”
“This song is a powerful and passionate call to defend those who truly deserve it.”
In other news, Trivium is scheduled to tour the UK later this month alongside Bullet For My Valentine. Both bands will embark on a 2025 North American tour with Bullet For My Valentine in the upcoming spring. Check here for a full list of tour dates and to purchase tickets.
Previously, in an interview with NME, BFMV’s Matt Tuck described the upcoming tour as a “deserved win,” noting that both bands “deserved” the chance to celebrate their shared history. “We never had the opportunity to fully grasp what was happening at that time,” he explained.
Last November, a crowdfunding campaign was initiated for Trivium drummer Alex Bent’s child after the infant spent over 70 days in the hospital.
