Matt Berninger’s Upcoming Album
Matt Berninger from National is set to release his second solo album titled “Get Sunk” through Book/Concord Records. The album was crafted in collaboration with Grammy-winning producer and engineer Shonu O’Brien, who also co-wrote several tracks.
Collaborations and Creative Process
This project features contributions from a diverse group of musicians, including Meg Duffy of Manual Habits, Julia Law Ronboy, Kyle Revika, Garrett Lang, Lounced, Booker T. Jones, Harrison Whitford, Mike Bruera, Walter Martin, and Paul Marun. The recordings took place in a basement studio located in Silver Lake, California.
Berninger has released the first single from the album, “Bonnet of Pins.” Discussing his creative process, he mentions: “Our hearts are akin to old wells filled with pennies and worms. I cannot resist the urge to delve deep and discover what lies beneath. Yet, at times, it feels like you can get stuck.”
This new album follows his solo debut, “Snake Prison,” produced by Booker T. Jones. After his writing journey in 2020, Berninger found fresh inspiration in Connecticut, where he penned lyrics and created art in his shed. “I aimed to capture a blurred image as closely as I could,” he reflects.
In support of “Get Sunk,” Berninger will embark on a tour featuring the main group from the album’s recording sessions, with Ronbo opening the shows.
