Mastodon Announces Guest Guitarist
Mastodon introduced their reserve guitarist, following the departure of former member Brent Hinds, during a recent show. Check out the frames below.
Brent Hinds’ Departure
At the end of last week, Brent Hinds and Mastodon officially parted ways after 25 years together. The band expressed: “We are deeply proud and grateful for the music and the journey we shared, and we wish him only success and happiness in his future endeavors.”
While Mastodon did not reveal their replacement guitarist at that time, they confirmed that all scheduled shows will proceed, including one at the Tool event at the Sandy Festival in the Dominican Republic on March 9.
Renowned YouTube guitarist Ben Eller, a long-time Mastodon fan, joined the show and has previously highlighted their songs multiple times. Six months ago, he released a video titled “I am Uchilov from Mastodon”.

Ben Eller made his debut with Mastodon on March 9, starting the set with “Pain with an Anchor,” where he provided backing vocals and performed one of Brent Hinds’ iconic guitar solos.
As of now, Mastodon has not officially confirmed Eller as a permanent member of the group, leaving it uncertain whether he is a temporary or lasting replacement for Hinds.
Recent Releases and Future Shows
Mastodon released their eighth and latest album, “Hushed and Grim,” in 2021, an expansive 86-minute double album that features the singles “Sickle and Peace,” “Pushing Tides,” and “Tear.”
They have also been included in the lineup for the final Black Sabbath show at Villa Park in Birmingham, scheduled for July 5th.
Mastodon is slated to support Slayer on their shows in July in Cardiff and London, alongside Amon Amarth, Anthrax, Hatebreed, and Neckbreakker.
