Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 Reflects on a “Difficult” Date with Melissa Joan Hart: “It Was Tough”

Mark Hoppus Reflects on a Memorable Date

Mark Hoppus from Blink-182 reminisced about the “terrible” date he once had with Melissa Joan Hart.

The bassist recently released his memoir Fahrenheit 182, and in a passage published by Entertainment Weekly, Hoppus opened up about the date with the Sabrina, the Teenage Witch star.

A Distant Connection

According to Hoppus, the couple went on their date in the San Fernando Valley over 25 years ago. They met at the Teen Choice Awards and arranged the date after Hart’s publicist provided Hoppus with her number.

“It was a terrible date. She was very sweet, but we did not connect,” he wrote. “Everything in her life revolved around acting, and it was tough to communicate with her about anything else.”

“I’m sure that from her perspective, all I could talk about was music,” he continued. “We simply weren’t a great match. It was difficult.”

Soon after, Hoppus met his future wife, Skye Everly, who is the executive director of MTV Talent.

Health Challenges and Reunions

In his memoir, Hoppus also discusses his cancer diagnosis received in 2021, from which he was declared cancer-free later that same year.

While Hoppus mentioned that the fatigue from chemotherapy, steroids, and physical pain “crushed me for months,” he also noted that the diagnosis “brought back friendships I hadn’t had in years,” including his rekindled friendship with Blink-182 co-founder Tom DeLonge.

“This healed my friendship with Tom: from day one, he said, ‘What do you need? I’m there,’” Hoppus shared. “In this friendship, as well as the love and support of those around me, I realized, ‘You know what? I’ve had a pretty amazing life.’”

DeLonge had a complicated relationship with Blink-182; in 2015, remaining members Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker confirmed DeLonge’s departure, although DeLonge claimed he never left the band, saying, “I love Blink-182 and am not leaving.”

Since then, they have reunited to embark on a world tour and released their comeback album “Once Again” in 2023.

In other news about Sublime, it has been reported that they have been working on their first album since 1996 with Travis Barker.
