In a four-star review of the new album, Manic Street Preachers’ NME stated: “Critical thinking” showcases the influence of the European modernist movement from 2014’s “Futurology,” alongside elegant ABBA-style pop, reminiscent of 2021’s “Ultra-Yarka Crying.”

“Yet its passionate intensity pairs with a provocative brilliance. The album feels both a nod to their teenage influences and a break from past sounds.”

In a recent interview with NME, bassist and lyricist Nicky Wire described the LP as “another type of recording” that might surprise fans.

“Albums reflect your state of mind – of course, in the world of Manics,” he explained. “Sometimes, you just have to unleash that honesty.”

He also mentioned to NME that the band is already “thinking about what to explore next,” stating: “It’s been a while since I wrote a lot of lyrics, as it feels good to step back from what you just created and avoid repetition.

“This one was meant for the darker nights of the soul, and I’m sure the next will diverge from this. Whether it’s broader or more macro in outlook remains to be seen.”
