Man Shares His Story After Paying £50 to Hire Banksy, Then Covering Up the Mural: ‘I Have No Regrets’

Collaboration With Youth

A man has recounted an experience when he enlisted Banksy to conduct an art workshop for £50, which included the creation of a mural that was later covered over.

Peter de Boer, Senior Practitioner at Bristol City Council, discussed with BBC on January 15 about inviting Banksy, whose identity remains undisclosed, to create art at a local youth club in the 1990s.

During these workshops, Banksy taught graffiti to groups of teenagers from Bristol. De Boer described this as a “real collaboration,” emphasizing that the participants were “engaged, having fun, and sharing ideas.”

“When you examine the photographs, it’s clear how he engaged with the young people,” de Boer mentioned. BBC has released images of the sessions on the agreement that Banksy would stay anonymous.

Creative Experience

Banksy was hired for £50 to lead a workshop for children, who were thrilled to work alongside the artist, although “nobody thought twice about who he was.”

“What stood out to me was that he had no real ego. He collaborated with them to create art, not just for them,” de Boer expressed. “In the morning, he sat with the children at the table, discussing their concepts. Then they immediately started to spray and create their imaginative designs.”
