Mallrat Drops New Single “Pavement” in Anticipation of Her Sophomore Album.

New Single Release

Malrath has unveiled a new single 'Sidewalk', serving as the final preview for her upcoming album “The light hit me in the face like straight to the right.” The release date is scheduled for February 14.

Collaboration and Inspiration

The track, co-produced by Buddy Ross and Styalz Fuego, incorporates samples from both albums. “Born 2 Lose” DJ Zirk and “Beg U” by Cub Sport.

“I like this song because it has two very contrasting samples,” Malrath shares. “Cub Sport is a band from my hometown Brisbane and my best friends. I've been obsessed with “Beg U” ever since Tim from Cub Sport sent me a demo a few years back. Tim and Sam from the group are married, and their first dance was to a Buddy Ross song. So “Pavement” feels very insular. Sampling is my favorite part of making music, even more than writing lyrics. It's really fun to imagine sounds in new ways, even if it's just sampling your own voice. He crafts a narrative and introduces vibrant characters to the song; it resonates deeply with me.”

Accompanying Visuals

The single is paired with a video directed by Tom Carroll, featuring Cub Sport's Tim Nelson, all set against a mesmerizing nighttime cityscape. This track follows previous singles “Horses”, “Ray of Light”, and “Hocus Pocus” from the forthcoming twelve-track album.
