Last night (February 27), the post was shared on her Instagram account, reflecting on the death of her mother when she was a child, and explaining how the loss led to a changed perception of death.
She made a post through her Stories sharing a letter that she wrote back in November.
“When I was a child, my mother died. Seeing her beautiful face in an open box and kissing her red lips to say goodbye left a ghostly memory. Deep desire. The terrible fear of leaving,” she began.
“I would follow my father everywhere, reminding him that if he were to die someday, I would like to be buried with him. I was fascinated by cemeteries,” she added. “I was not afraid of death, because I knew that this was the only way that I could again be with my mother.
“As life went on, I lost many loved ones and began to see death as a doorway to eternal life. Even when my lovers left me, it felt like a kind of death. When they hurt me, I held a ritual burial for them. I would bury my fear of leaving before it could overtake me.”
“I found consolation visiting the graves of others. An attempt to connect to the souls of all lost. I wanted to assure them that they were not alone. None of us are,” continued Madonna, reflecting on past teachings from the church. “We are all married to God.” This is what Sister Mary Teresa always told me. “I am the bride of Christ. I am a bride of love.”
“It sounded so romantic to me. I assumed that I could tell her all my deepest secrets. “The funeral of your fear. Bury your fear,” she told me. Then she took my hand, and we walked among the dead, under the light of the full moon.”
The singer of “Celebration” also shared a condensed version of the letter in a post containing a carousel of images from a photo shoot. Find the post above.
Madonna’s mother passed away from breast cancer when the singer was only five years old.
Madonna’s Ongoing Journey
This is not the first time the singer has shared her views on life and her attitude toward death in recent months. Last summer, Madonna reflected on a near-death experience that made her postpone her tour.
“A year ago, today I just returned home from the hospital after experiencing a life-threatening disease. I could barely stand in my backyard, holding one Bengalka,” she shared in July last year. “I made a wonderful recovery and spent an amazing year. Thank you, God. Life is beautiful!”
Although the exact details of her health scare were not disclosed, she faced a life-threatening health episode in June 2023 after battling a “serious bacterial infection,” which led to her being admitted to intensive care.
Her family revealed that they were “preparing for the worst” during her illness. Since then, she has fully recovered.
In recent Madonna news, the pop icon announced the upcoming reissue of her classic 1994 album “Bedtime Stories” and expressed her opposition to Donald Trump, referring to herself as “king”.
