Lucy Dacus Unveils New Single ‘Best Guess’ During Music Video Auditions

Lucy Dacus Announces Music Video Casting Calls

Lucy Dacus has revealed casting calls for the official music video of her new single. You can listen to a preview of “Best Guess” below.

Details on the Casting Call

Yesterday (January 7), the Boygenius singer shared a 40-second snippet of a handwritten note on TikTok. It includes an excerpt from the song, which Dacus revealed during a Julien Baker concert in Brooklyn last fall.

“ATTENTION,” she wrote. “I’m seeking individuals to participate in the video for this song. If you are polite, courteous, or can pretend to be so. Maybe you’re a charming individual. Perhaps you are keen and ready to be on camera.

To get involved, Dacus instructed, “Use this audio to create a video of you looking cool and my team will reach out to that account next week with further details.”

She continued: “It might be a bit premature, but we have a specific timeframe to make it happen, so I hope you enjoy this preview of ‘Best Guess.’

In the teaser for the upcoming track, Dacus sings: “Buttoning your necklace/Buttoning your dress/Hands on your waist/Kissing your neck/I love your body/I love your mind/They will change/Mine too

The exact release date for Dacus’s “Best Guess” is still to be announced. In the meantime, you can refer back to the live rendition below.

The singer-songwriter recently declared a brief US tour for next month, marking her first solo performances in over two years. Dacus will showcase “mostly new songs” during concerts in Brooklyn, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Dacus released her third and final solo album, Home Video, in 2021 and later reunited with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker for Boygenius’s acclaimed debut album, The Record (2023).

The album garnered the group three Grammy Awards and was named NME‘s best album of 2023. Additionally, Boygenius received the International Band of the Year award at the 2024 BRIT Awards.

The trio announced their hiatus during a secret show in Los Angeles early last year. “We are stepping away for the foreseeable future,” they were quoted as stating by fans. “This is our last show and we feel it.”

Dacus later reflected on Boygenius’s remarkably successful year, sharing: “I am acutely aware of what a rare experience I am about to have.”

In December 2023, Boygenius told NME that they appreciated the idea of the band’s future remaining a “surprise.” Baker expressed, “I prefer this group to remain akin to that because it’s more ephemeral; it’s not specifically tied to one of us or a person we have to cohabit with daily.”

“It’s something we can revisit when we’re inspired, or it’s a space we can return to. I prefer to keep it sacred rather than feel compelled to work on it constantly.”

In other news, Julien Baker and Torres have teamed up for their country-inspired debut single, “Sugar In The Tank.”
