Friendship and Support
Lucy Dacus discussed her blossoming friendship with Chappelle Roan, highlighting how their mutual encouragement aided her during challenging times in her career.
Overcoming Challenges Together
In a recent interview with People’s magazine, the Boygenius member revealed that she and her bandmates reached out to Roan after she spoke up about fan behavior. “When Chappell felt overwhelmed, we all rallied around her in Boygenius, reminding her that it’s tough when everyone has something to say about you,” Dacus shared.
Dacus elaborated on how Roan later provided reciprocal support during her own tough period. “A few weeks ago, I had a challenging week where the music release felt particularly heavy, making me question if I should even exist outside of my job. She reassured me, saying, ‘No, what you do is significant and helps many people feel less isolated,’” Dacus recalled.
The duo connected through their shared experiences with public scrutiny. “When people dislike you, they really don’t know you,” Dacus noted. “Similarly, when they love you, they lack that personal understanding. So, it’s vital to shield yourself from hatred while also not letting the admiration of others substitute for genuine love in your life. They might relate to your work, but they still don’t truly know who you are as a person.”
New Music on the Horizon
Dacus is gearing up to release her fourth album, “Forever Is Sense,” through Polydor/Geffen, featuring collaborations with notable artists such as Blake Mills, Bartis Strange, Madison Cunningham, Collin Pastore, Jake Finch, and Melina Duters.
