Behind the Curtain

In a clip from the documentary, which premieres on Sky Documentaries on February 2, Walsh is referred to as the “chief puppeteer of the press.” He openly reveals that he would do whatever it took to ensure the band received media attention.

He stated: “Sometimes the boys would read stories about themselves in the newspapers that weren’t true, and they would ask, ‘Who told them that?’ I did it! I told them.” Boyzone singer Ronan Keating elaborated: “He believed that any story was a good story. He constantly made up stories about the group, including relationships with non-existent girlfriends.”

Walsh recalled one of his most outrageous fabrications, where he invented a story about the band being involved in a plane crash. “They were in a plane crash one day in Australia, and I forgot to tell the families I made it up,” he chuckled, before admitting: “There wasn’t a plane crash, but it made for a good story.”
