New Single Features Thunderous Beats

The lead single from the album is introduced with a thunderous beat, showcasing Simz’s rapping prowess: “Number one plays your position / Do not trust all the hands that you shake / If I enter the wrong code in the system / There won’t be a constant change.

“Flup” also features long-time collaborators Obongjayar and Munchilda Sanelli. Directed by Salomon Ligtelm, the black and white video depicts the rapper dressed as a matador alongside an equally costumed counterpart. “Lotus” follows the rapper’s previous album, which won the Mercury Prize and Brit Award, titled “No, Thank You,” released in 2022. In a four-star review, NME commented: “No, a quiet yet profound expression of gratitude draws parallels to Kendrick Lamar’s “Untitled Unmastered” from 2016 and showcases the remnants of his sessions from “To Pimp a Butterfly.”

“It also had moments of liberation and flexibility in the tracks, and like Lamar, Simz urgently has something to articulate. This case solidifies Simz as a true modern great, further established with this release.”

She concluded 2024 with her single “Hello, Hello” and hinted at even more music in 2025. Simz also featured in the recent singles “We Are Praying” and “Satellite Business 2.0” by Samp, along with the track “Black and British.”

Last year, she collaborated with Tate Modern, overseeing an evening of music sessions, seminars, and discussions. Additionally, in November, Simz presented Busta Rhymes with the Global Icon Award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester.

This English-Nigerian rapper has also been nominated in the Act Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap category for the upcoming Brit Awards 2025, alongside artists Stormzy, Central Cee, Dave, and Ghetts, as one of five categories that are first decided in the Brits WhatsApp chat.

In other news, Little Simz has recently been announced as the 2025 Meltdown Festival curator at the Southbank Centre in London.
